Sign Language Interpreter in Sterling, AK

Desired Qualifications:

• National Sign Language Interpreter Certification (required)
• Demonstrated fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English
• Experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in educational settings preferred
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to adapt interpreting style to match students’ needs and classroom environments
• Reliability in maintaining confidentiality and adhering to ethical standards

Key Responsibilities:

• Facilitate clear communication between students, teachers, and staff via sign language interpretation
• Interpret classroom lessons, discussions, and school activities into ASL and/or English
• Collaborate with educators and support staff to ensure accessible and effective learning experiences
• Assist in preparing and adapting materials to support student comprehension
• Participate in meetings, workshops, and school community events as needed
• Serve as a positive role model and advocate for students who are deaf or hard of hearing
