Educational Sign Language Interpreter (SLI)
Location: Stockton, CA (In-Person)
Schedule: Full-Time (30–40 hours/week)
Duration: 2026/2027 School Year (August 2026 – June 2027)
Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Sign Language Interpreter to provide essential communication access for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) students within the Stockton school community. This is a full-time, in-person role for the upcoming academic year, where you will serve as the primary link between students, peers, and educators in both academic and extracurricular settings.
The ideal candidate is not only fluent in ASL but also understands the nuances of interpreting for children and adolescents in a fast-paced educational environment.
Key Responsibilities
Real-Time Interpretation: Provide high-quality voice-to-sign and sign-to-voice interpreting for classroom lectures, group discussions, assemblies, and school events.
Educational Support: Facilitate communication during counseling sessions, IEP meetings, and parent-teacher conferences as needed.
Student Integration: Act as a social and academic bridge, ensuring DHH students have full access to the campus culture and peer interactions.
BIP/IEP Alignment: Collaborate with Special Education teams to ensure interpreting services align with individual student goals and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP).
Material Preparation: Review instructional materials and lesson plans in advance to ensure accurate technical signing for specialized subjects (e.g., science, math).
Qualifications & Requirements
California State Standards: Must meet one of the following California Department of Education (CDE) requirements:
An EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) score of 4.0 or higher.
Valid National Certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or similar recognized body.
Education: Minimum of an Associate’s degree (Bachelor’s preferred) in ASL-English Interpreting or a related field.
Skills: Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and Manually Coded English (MCE) as required by student needs.
Clearances: Must pass a DOJ/FBI fingerprint background check and provide a negative TB test result.
