In this contract role, you’ll help facilitate effective communication for a 4-year-old PreK student who is medically fragile and uses a vent and trach, ensuring equal access to classroom activities and instruction.
Position details:
- Assignment for the 26/27 school year
- 4 days per week
- 4 hours each day
- Work closely with a single PreK student
- Start date: Second week in August
Preferred skills and experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and experience in educational settings
- Ability to adapt interpreting style for young children
- Previous experience supporting students with medical needs, especially those requiring vents and trachs, is ideal
- Empathy, patience, and a collaborative mindset when working with educators and healthcare staff
- Current licensure or certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (state requirements may apply)
Key responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instruction, peer interactions, and support communication between the student and staff
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and medical professionals to ensure comprehensive care and support
- Foster a welcoming, inclusive environment that encourages participation and engagement
