Sign Language Interpreter in Suffolk, VA

Make a positive impact in the lives of students by providing skilled sign language interpretation in a collaborative school setting. This full-time contract opportunity involves working closely with elementary-aged students, supporting their learning and communication needs during the 2026-2027 school year throughout the vibrant Virginia Beach area. You’ll work Monday through Friday, for 35 hours each week, providing direct 1:1 interpretation for assigned students. Assignments may shift to different locations if your assigned student is absent, ensuring maximum coverage and support.

Key Qualifications:

• Proficient in American Sign Language with demonstrated experience as a Sign Language Interpreter
• Valid Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III required
• Strong preference for Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5 or higher, but the district will interview candidates with a score of 3.0 or above, or a QAS score of 3 or better
• Experience supporting elementary school students in educational settings
• Familiarity with Visaphonics is a plus, though not required
• Ability to adapt to multiple school environments within the district as needed
• Committed to strictly in-person assignments (remote or hybrid work is not available)

Role Responsibilities:

• Deliver 1:1 ASL interpretation for elementary students across assigned schools
• Collaborate with educators and staff to foster an accessible learning environment
• Step in to assist at other campuses if your assigned student is unavailable
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards relevant to educational interpreting
• Document services and report student progress as required
