Step into a fulfilling role supporting a 9th-grade student’s educational journey as a contract Sign Language Interpreter within a dynamic high school behavioral class setting. This position is designed for those passionate about bridging communication gaps and opening new possibilities for students with unique needs. Located near Sugar Land, TX, you'll be helping a student who uses Cochlear implants, hearing aids, and an ALD device, as he adjusts following his return from a specialized school environment. Your expertise will be vital during instructional periods—averaging 6.5 hours per day—with lunch and arrival/dismissal times excluded.
Qualifications:
- Holds at least one of the four recognized national SLI certifications
- Strong command of American Sign Language (ASL) and interpreting within educational environments
- Experience collaborating with educators and supporting students with assistive technology (Cochlear implants, hearing aids, ALD devices)
- Ability to maintain professionalism, patience, and flexibility in a behavioral class context
Responsibilities:
- Deliver clear and accurate ASL interpretation for classroom instruction, ensuring full access to curriculum and interaction
- Collaborate closely with teachers and school staff to adapt communication support to student needs
- Respect the student’s preferences and identity, working with both verbal and non-verbal cues
- Adhere strictly to schedule—support provided only during instructional times, not lunch or arrival/dismissal
- Maintain confidentiality and foster a supportive, inclusive learning environment
