Sign Language Interpreter in Sugar Land, TX

Make a meaningful impact by facilitating communication for a 9th-grade student in a behavioral classroom setting. This contract position requires expertise as a Sign Language Interpreter, supporting a student with unique communication needs at the high school level. The student utilizes Cochlear implants, hearing aids, and an ALD device, and recently transitioned back from a Residential Day School Program. Your interpreting skills will ensure the student has access to instructional content and can fully participate in the classroom environment.

Key Qualifications:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and experience as a Sign Language Interpreter
• Understanding of classroom dynamics, preferably with high school populations
• Sensitivity to students with hearing differences and familiarity with assistive listening devices
• Ability to collaborate and work as part of a job-share arrangement (Fridays only, with flexibility to substitute as needed)
• Current certification and proof of licensure for interpreting in educational settings
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities

Role Responsibilities:

• Provide ASL interpreting services during instructional periods for one 9th-grade student
• Coordinate with another language facilitator to ensure consistency for the student
• Support the student’s participation during academic activities without interpreting during lunch, arrival, or dismissal
• Step in as a substitute for your counterpart if they are absent
• Foster an inclusive and supportive educational atmosphere

This part-time opportunity—averaging 6.5 hours every Friday—offers a rewarding way to contribute your expertise within an educational setting. The contract runs from August 12, 2026, through May 27, 2027.
