This full-time contract role involves providing both American Sign Language (ASL) instruction and Sign Language Interpreter services to support a first-grade student with significant language deprivation. The position offers 37.5 hours per week and covers both the current and next school years.
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in educational environments
- EIPA score of 4.0 preferred, but those with a lower score will be considered for a temporary certification
- Compassionate and patient in serving students with unique language needs
- Ability to collaborate with teachers, specialists, and families to ensure student progress
Responsibilities:
- Directly interpret classroom instruction and interactions for a first-grade student
- Provide ASL instruction and support language development for the student
- Work closely with educators and therapy staff to adapt materials and lessons as needed
- Foster a supportive, inclusive environment that encourages the student's social and academic growth
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all student and staff interactions
