Key Qualifications:

  • Current EIPA level 3.5 or higher, or EIPA 3.0 with ISBE approval
  • Valid ISBE certification for interpreting in educational settings
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and excellent communication skills
  • Previous experience interpreting in K-12 academic environments is preferred
  • Reliability and a collaborative team approach

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide sign language interpretation for students, teachers, and staff in classroom and school-wide settings
  • Facilitate effective communication between Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing students and their peers, teachers, and support personnel
  • Adapt signing and interpreting styles to the age, level, and educational needs of individual students
  • Uphold confidentiality and adhere to professional standards of practice
  • Participate in educational meetings and collaborate with school staff as needed to support student success
