Key Qualifications:

• Certified Sign Language Interpreter license required
• Experience supporting elementary-aged students, ideally in a school environment
• Proficiency in American Sign Language
• Ability to use creative visual supports to aid language acquisition
• Compassion, patience, and understanding—key in guiding learners new to sign language
• Comfortable with a 1:1, student-centered position
• Open to both local and travel interpreters

Primary Responsibilities:

• Provide continuous 1:1 sign language interpreting for a kindergartner throughout the school day (approximately 7:30 am – 2:30 pm)
• Coordinate visual cues and supports to facilitate comprehension and communication
• Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and other specialists to ensure inclusion in classroom activities
• Foster a supportive, encouraging environment to help the student gain confidence and skills
• Adapt interpreting methods to match the student’s evolving needs as they develop language skills
