This full-time position, based in an elementary school setting near Sylva, NC, is ideal for a compassionate and certified Sign Language Interpreter eager to make a lasting impact.
In this role, you will work closely with a young learner during school hours (approximately 7:30 AM to 2:30 PM), helping them access their classroom education, communicate with peers and teachers, and develop confidence in using sign language. This student benefits greatly from visual supports and patient guidance as they acquire foundational language skills.
Desired qualifications:
- Valid certification as a Sign Language Interpreter
- Appropriate licensure for working in an elementary or school-based setting
- Previous experience with 1:1 interpretation in educational environments is preferred
- Demonstrated ability to provide visual and adaptive communication supports
- A positive, patient demeanor, especially when working with young children new to sign language
- Willingness to collaborate with teachers and other school professionals
Key responsibilities:
- Deliver real-time sign language interpretation for all classroom activities
- Offer visual cues and supports to facilitate understanding
- Foster a supportive, encouraging environment for the student’s language development
- Work collaboratively with educators to adapt materials and strategies as needed
