Elementary Certified Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) | Sylva, North Carolina

This onsite contract role offers the opportunity to provide essential 1:1 communication access and visual support to a student who is completely deaf and currently learning sign language. Key Qualifications & Experience:

• Current certification as a Sign Language Interpreter
• Valid interpreter license for educational settings
• Experience in elementary school environments strongly preferred
• Comfortable with 1:1 student support
• Proficient in visual supports and expressive, clear signing
• Patient, adaptable, and enthusiastic about working with young children
• Open to interviewing travel candidates from other regions

Responsibilities:

• Deliver direct, personalized sign language interpretation for a Kindergartner throughout the school day (approx. 7:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.)
• Facilitate communication between the student and teachers, peers, and staff
• Utilize a range of visual supports and adaptive strategies to meet the student’s individual needs
• Assist in building the student’s confidence and signing abilities as they develop new skills
• Collaborate closely with educational teams to create an inclusive, supportive environment
