Desired Qualifications:

  • National Interpreter Certification (NIC), Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) or equivalent certification
  • Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Previous experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in educational settings is highly valued
  • Strong understanding of Deaf culture and the needs of Deaf and Hard of Hearing students
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, staff, and families
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Flexibility and adaptability in dynamic school environments

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate clear and accurate communication between students who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing and educators, staff, or peers
  • Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, school events, meetings, and other academic activities using ASL
  • Adapt interpreting style to fit the individual needs of each student
  • Support inclusion and full participation of students in academic and social components of school life
  • Collaborate with educational teams to promote student success and independence
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all situations
