Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and interpreting in educational settings
- Hold a recognized certification such as EIPA, RID, or equivalent (or eligibility for certification)
- Prior experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in K-12 school environments is highly valued
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and families
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion in all interactions
- Excellent listening, communication, and time-management skills
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide real-time sign language interpretation between deaf/hard-of-hearing students and teachers, staff, and classmates
- Translate classroom instructions, discussions, and school activities, ensuring full access to the curriculum and school events
- Collaborate with teachers, case managers, and educational teams to adapt materials as needed for student success
- Support students in both individual and group instructional settings
- Assist with extracurricular events or meetings when necessary, fostering inclusivity
- Maintain accurate records and follow all required school policies and ethical guidelines
