Providing communication support through sign language interpretation in an educational setting, this role focuses on facilitating effective interaction for a kindergarten student who is not yet fluent in American Sign Language (ASL). The position is full-time and based in Buena Vista, GA, with a contract assignment beginning as soon as possible through May 21.
Key responsibilities include:
- Delivering sign language interpretation in both in-person and telehealth contexts
- Collaborating closely with the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) team to tailor communication strategies for optimal student engagement
- Supporting classroom activities by interpreting spoken language into ASL and vice versa
- Assisting in the development of language skills for a young learner with limited ASL fluency
- Maintaining confidentiality and adhering to all educational and ethical standards related to student information
Qualifications sought for this role encompass:
- Proficiency in ASL and experience interpreting in educational environments
- Previous work with young children, especially those not fully fluent in ASL, preferred
- Ability to work cooperatively with educators, specialists, and families
- Flexibility to perform telehealth interpreting as needed
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
