Virtual Sign Language Interpreter | New York

A full-time Sign Language Interpreter opportunity is available within an elementary school setting, providing essential communication support for students through telehealth and in-person services. This role operates Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, supporting an elementary caseload and ensuring effective communication access for students with hearing impairments.

Key Responsibilities:

• Facilitate clear and accurate interpretation between American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken English in educational settings.
• Conduct telehealth interpretation sessions to support remote learning and communication.
• Collaborate with educational staff to promote an inclusive classroom environment.
• Assist with effective communication during meetings, classroom activities, and school-related events.
• Maintain confidentiality and comply with all relevant laws and ethical standards related to sign language interpreting in educational environments.

Qualifications:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English.
• Experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably in school or educational settings.
• Knowledge of telehealth platforms and remote interpreting techniques is highly desirable.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work with children and school personnel.
• Ability to manage an elementary caseload and adapt to changing student needs.

This contract role offers a standard school-day schedule designed to align with the academic calendar. Compensation ranges from $50 to $55 per hour.
