Key Qualifications & Experience:
- Certification or license in Sign Language Interpretation (as required by state guidelines)
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with ability to adapt communication for young learners
- Previous experience in educational or school-based settings preferred
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Patience, empathy, and a passion for fostering growth in students
Primary Responsibilities:
- Serve as a 1:1 interpreter for a kindergarten student, facilitating communication in academic and social settings
- Collaborate with the classroom teacher, who is fluent in sign, to enhance the student's language acquisition and participation
- Support the student in building foundational sign language skills
- Adjust interpreting techniques to meet changing needs and development
- Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and positive relationships with staff and families
