Experience a rewarding opportunity making a difference as a Sign Language Interpreter supporting high school students near Thurmont, MD. This contract position starts ASAP and runs through June 11, 2027, with the possibility of extended school year (ESY) work. You'll play an integral role in fostering communication and access for students who are Deaf or hard of hearing in academic environments.
Openings include:
- Supporting a senior high school student daily from 11:30 am to 3:30 pm—male interpreters are preferred for this need.
- Supporting a 10th-grade female student with cochlear implants, from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm. While most athletic activities appear covered, prior experience supporting students in sports or extracurriculars such as football and track would be a valuable bonus.
Desired Qualifications:
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) with relevant certification(s) as a Sign Language Interpreter.
- Experience working within educational settings, ideally middle or high school.
- Strong interpersonal communication and cultural competency skills.
- Ability to tailor interpreting to both group and one-on-one contexts.
- Sensitivity to the needs of students with diverse backgrounds, including those with cochlear implants.
- Commitment to confidentiality and professional standards in accordance with applicable laws and ethical guidelines.

- Support academic access during classroom instruction, activities, and school events.
- Adapt signing style and communication approach to suit individual student preferences and situations.
