Make a meaningful impact by supporting a first-grade student with significant language deprivation as a Sign Language Interpreter and American Sign Language Specialist in a vibrant educational community near Traverse City, MI. This full-time, contract opportunity offers 37.5 hours per week, covering both the current and next school year.

This role centers on providing direct communication access and language facilitation for a young learner, ensuring he has every opportunity to participate fully in his educational experience. Utilizing your expertise, you will play a crucial part in fostering both his academic and social development.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Proficiency in Sign Language Interpreting and fluency in American Sign Language
  • EIPA 4.0 or higher preferred (candidates with a lower EIPA will still be considered, and support for a temporary certification is available)
  • Patience, empathy, and a passion for supporting students with special communication needs
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and school staff
  • Strong sense of responsibility and a commitment to student advocacy

Your Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

  • Provide real-time interpretation for a first-grade student in various classroom and school activities
  • Foster a language-rich environment tailored to the student's needs
  • Collaborate regularly with educational teams to adapt materials and instruction
  • Maintain open communication with staff to ensure continuity of care and support
  • Contribute insights and observations to help track the student’s progress
