Qualifications & Desired Experience:

  • Advanced proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Recommended EIPA score of 3.5 or above
  • Previous experience as a sign language interpreter, ideally in K-12 schools
  • Strong understanding of deaf/hard of hearing student needs and IEP implementation
  • Professionalism and discretion in collaborating with teachers and educational staff
  • Comfortable interpreting in-classroom, assemblies, and related school activities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver real-time sign language interpretation for an elementary student across academic and school-related settings
  • Act as a communication bridge among students, teachers, and other staff
  • Facilitate student participation and comprehension in classroom instruction and activities
  • Adapt interpretation style to support language development and comprehension level of the student
