Key Qualifications & Desired Experience:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and thorough knowledge of interpreting practices within K-12 schools
  • Ability to facilitate communication between Deaf/hard-of-hearing students and their peers, teachers, and staff
  • Understanding of educational terminology, protocols, and diverse learning needs
  • Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score or state credential preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; able to build rapport with students and professionals
  • Experience in school or youth-centered environments is a strong plus
  • Flexible, adaptable approach and strong commitment to confidentiality

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, assemblies, and school activities accurately and impartially
  • Foster direct communication access for students during lessons and extracurriculars
  • Collaborate with educators and student support teams to create an optimal learning environment
  • Participate in meetings, training, and professional development, contributing expertise on Deaf culture and accessibility
  • Assist with preparation and adaptation of instructional materials, as needed
