Step into an impactful role supporting a 9th-grade student beginning to experience hearing loss in an educational environment. This contract opportunity offers the chance to provide both sign language and verbal instruction, ensuring the student can fully participate in the classroom and thrive academically from August 20th to May 27th.
Key Qualifications & Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Previous experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, ideally in a school setting
- Ability to deliver clear, compassionate communication, adapting to both signed and spoken modalities
- Strong understanding of the academic and social needs of students with hearing differences
- Certification or relevant credentials as a Sign Language Interpreter preferred
- Comfortable with technology; willingness to demonstrate interpreting through virtual platforms or "voco" sessions
Responsibilities:
- Work one-on-one with a 9th-grade student, providing real-time interpretation and clarification during classroom and school activities
- Assist with both verbal and signed communication, addressing the student's changing hearing needs
- Foster an inclusive environment, collaborating with teachers and staff to support the student’s educational goals
- Participate in meetings or professional development as needed
- Adapt interpreting style to best support the student's preferences and evolving requirements
