Sign Language Interpreter – School Setting (Warren, MI)

A school-based position is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support students with hearing impairments in an educational environment. This role involves facilitating effective communication between students, teachers, and staff, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity throughout the school day. Some travel to nearby sites may be required to accommodate student needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide clear and accurate interpretation of spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa during classroom instruction, meetings, and extracurricular activities
  • Collaborate with educators and support staff to promote a fully accessible learning environment
  • Adapt interpretation services based on the age, language proficiency, and learning style of the student
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism adhering to ethical standards
  • Occasionally travel to additional school locations within the region to support student programs

Desired Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language with formal certification preferred
  • Experience working in K-12 educational settings or with children and adolescents who are deaf or hard of hearing
  • Excellent listening and communication skills to accurately convey messages in various educational contexts
  • Ability to work independently and as part of an educational team
  • Flexibility to accommodate travel between school sites as needed
