Qualifications:
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Appropriate state or national sign language interpreting credentials/certification
- Previous experience interpreting in a school, educational, or youth-focused setting is strongly preferred
- Ability to interpret in one-on-one, small group, and classroom settings
- Strong interpersonal communication and collaboration abilities
- Adaptability and problem-solving skills when addressing varied communication needs
- Professionalism, reliability, and a positive, student-focused attitude
Responsibilities:
- Provide clear, accurate ASL interpretation for students, educators, and school staff during classroom instruction, school activities, and meetings
- Foster communication access by supporting students academically and socially
- Collaborate closely with teachers, special education professionals, and administrators to align with educational goals and IEPs
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to accepted codes of professional ethics for interpreters
- Adjust interpreting strategies to match the unique needs and strengths of individual students
