Desired Experience & Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Experience interpreting in school or educational settings preferred
- Familiarity with IEPs and accommodations for Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing students is a plus
- National or state certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (or eligibility)
- Excellent interpersonal, listening, and communication skills
- Professional, dependable, and flexible approach to changing environments
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken/written communication into ASL and vice versa for students, staff, and parents during ESY program sessions
- Foster an inclusive, accessible classroom environment, ensuring equal access to instruction and participation
- Collaborate closely with educators, support staff, and special education teams to meet students' IEP goals
- Adapt interpretations to diverse classroom activities, including lessons, group work, and extracurricular events as needed
- Maintain confidentiality and follow all district policies and ethical standards in educational interpreting
- Support students to build confidence and independence in their communication
