Desired Experience & Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Experience interpreting in school or educational settings preferred
  • Familiarity with IEPs and accommodations for Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing students is a plus
  • National or state certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (or eligibility)
  • Excellent interpersonal, listening, and communication skills
  • Professional, dependable, and flexible approach to changing environments

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret spoken/written communication into ASL and vice versa for students, staff, and parents during ESY program sessions
  • Foster an inclusive, accessible classroom environment, ensuring equal access to instruction and participation
  • Collaborate closely with educators, support staff, and special education teams to meet students' IEP goals
  • Adapt interpretations to diverse classroom activities, including lessons, group work, and extracurricular events as needed
  • Maintain confidentiality and follow all district policies and ethical standards in educational interpreting
  • Support students to build confidence and independence in their communication
