Key Qualifications:
- Registered under the Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) and Transliteration Registration Act
- Proven fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Demonstrated understanding of the unique educational needs of students who are Deaf or hard of hearing
- Ability to comprehend and effectively follow oral and written instructions
- Strong communication skills—both oral and written
- High school diploma and relevant licensure for interpreting in an educational setting
Responsibilities:
- Facilitate real-time interpretation of classroom instruction, discussions, and activities for a high school student who is Deaf or hard of hearing
- Collaborate proactively with teachers and support staff to ensure that instructional content and classroom interactions are fully accessible
- Support the student’s participation in academic and extracurricular activities through consistent, accurate interpretation
- Assist with coursework communication to bridge gaps and clarify information as needed
- Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and sensitivity in all interactions and assignments
