Key Qualifications:

  • Registered under the Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) and Transliteration Registration Act
  • Proven fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Demonstrated understanding of the unique educational needs of students who are Deaf or hard of hearing
  • Ability to comprehend and effectively follow oral and written instructions
  • Strong communication skills—both oral and written
  • High school diploma and relevant licensure for interpreting in an educational setting

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate real-time interpretation of classroom instruction, discussions, and activities for a high school student who is Deaf or hard of hearing
  • Collaborate proactively with teachers and support staff to ensure that instructional content and classroom interactions are fully accessible
  • Support the student’s participation in academic and extracurricular activities through consistent, accurate interpretation
  • Assist with coursework communication to bridge gaps and clarify information as needed
  • Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and sensitivity in all interactions and assignments
