Make a meaningful impact supporting students in an educational setting as a Sign Language Interpreter. This full-time contract role provides the chance to collaborate with teachers, staff, and families to help ensure all students have full access to educational opportunities.
Key Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and knowledge of interpreting techniques
- Completed training or certification as a Sign Language Interpreter, with a preference for those holding EIPA, RID, or similar credentials
- Experience working in educational settings or with school-aged children is highly valued
- Ability to facilitate clear, accurate communication between students, staff, and the wider school community
- Professional, reliable, and able to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
Primary Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into sign language and vice versa during classroom instruction, assemblies, meetings, and extracurricular activities
- Collaborate with teachers and educational teams to adapt communication to students’ individual needs
- Support students with hearing differences to understand and participate in all aspects of their learning
- Maintain accurate records of interpreting activities and student progress as required
- Stay updated with best practices in educational interpreting through ongoing professional development
