Qualifications & Desired Skills:

  • Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably in an educational setting
  • Ability to foster communication and engagement with young children
  • Patience, compassion, and a collaborative approach within a classroom team
  • Understanding of developmentally appropriate practices for Kindergarten-age students
  • Strong interpersonal skills and professionalism

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a dedicated interpreter for a Kindergarten student who communicates primarily through sign language
  • Facilitate interactions between the student, peers, and classroom staff to support full participation in classroom activities
  • Adapt interpreting tactics to meet the unique needs of a non-hearing-impaired student using sign language as a primary mode of communication
  • Maintain clear, accurate interpretation of instructional content and classroom exchanges
  • Collaborate with teachers and support staff to provide the best possible learning environment
  • Uphold confidentiality and ethical standards at all times
