This role focuses on delivering communication access and inclusion for a kindergarten student during the 2026-2027 academic year. With 35 hours each week, you’ll become a vital part of the student’s educational journey, working closely with teachers and support staff to foster meaningful engagement.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Current VQAS Level III or higher, or EIPA score of 3.0 or above, is required
  • Experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in educational environments, preferably with early childhood or elementary-aged children
  • Solid command of American Sign Language and familiarity with diverse communication styles within the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing community
  • Strong collaborative spirit and a commitment to supporting student-centered learning
  • Ability to adapt communication strategies based on individual student needs

Responsibilities:

  • Interpret classroom instruction, peer interactions, and school events for a kindergarten student using ASL
  • Facilitate clear and effective communication between the student, teachers, and classmates to support daily participation and academic progress
  • Prepare for lessons and activities in advance to ensure seamless interpreting support
  • Provide feedback and collaborate with teachers, educational specialists, and family members
  • Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality at all times
