Experience a rewarding opportunity as an American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter, working one-on-one with a Kindergarten student as a Sign Language Interpreter / Language Facilitator on a contract basis. You’ll collaborate closely with a young student who communicates primarily through sign language, providing vital language access to facilitate learning and participation throughout the school day. While the student is not hearing impaired, proficiency in ASL is essential for fostering engagement, understanding, and a rich educational experience.
Key Qualifications:
- Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language
- Previous experience as a Sign Language Interpreter or Language Facilitator in educational settings is a plus
- Compassionate, patient, and enthusiastic about working with early elementary students
- Ability to adapt communication methods based on student needs
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Collaborative approach to working with educational staff and therapists
Primary Responsibilities:
- Offer continuous ASL interpretation and language facilitation for the assigned Kindergarten student (35 hours/week)
- Ensure the student’s full access to classroom instruction, social interactions, and school activities
- Partner with teachers and support staff to encourage the student’s communication and participation
- Foster an inclusive environment for student growth and development
- Maintain confidential, professional behavior in school settings
