Essential Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter preferred
  • Experience supporting middle school students, especially in an educational setting
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and other communication modes for the deaf/hard of hearing
  • Ability to foster positive, respectful relationships with students and staff
  • Capable of maintaining confidentiality and professionalism at all times
  • Strong organizational skills and adaptability in varied classroom environments

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret verbal and written communication between students, staff, and teachers throughout the school day
  • Facilitate access to classroom instruction, discussions, and school activities for a middle school student
  • Collaborate with educators to support the student’s academic and social success
  • Advocate for the student’s communication needs within the school setting
  • Adjust communication approach based on the student’s language development and unique needs
  • Participate in IEP meetings and contribute insights on student progress
