Essential Qualifications:
- Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter preferred
- Experience supporting middle school students, especially in an educational setting
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and other communication modes for the deaf/hard of hearing
- Ability to foster positive, respectful relationships with students and staff
- Capable of maintaining confidentiality and professionalism at all times
- Strong organizational skills and adaptability in varied classroom environments
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret verbal and written communication between students, staff, and teachers throughout the school day
- Facilitate access to classroom instruction, discussions, and school activities for a middle school student
- Collaborate with educators to support the student’s academic and social success
- Advocate for the student’s communication needs within the school setting
- Adjust communication approach based on the student’s language development and unique needs
- Participate in IEP meetings and contribute insights on student progress
