Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) | Yorktown, Virginia

Make an impact by supporting a young learner’s success as an American Sign Language interpreter in a vibrant educational environment near Yorktown, VA. In this contract position, you’ll play a key role in facilitating communication and creating an inclusive classroom experience for a kindergarten student, working closely with teachers and staff to ensure an engaging and supportive day-to-day learning journey.

This assignment runs from August 24, 2026, through June 9, 2027, for 35 hours per week, offering you the chance to build strong relationships and see your work make a meaningful difference across the school year.

Key Qualifications:

• Current VQAS Level 3 or EIPA 3.0+ certification required.
• Experience in a K-12 school setting or with young children highly desired.
• Proficiency in American Sign Language and spoken English.
• Ability to facilitate communication in both academic and social settings.
• Sincere commitment to helping young students reach their full potential.
• Comfortable working in person (virtual interpreting is not an option for this role).

Primary Responsibilities:

• Interpret classroom instruction, school activities, and peer interactions for a kindergarten student.
• Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to adapt materials and foster student inclusion.
• Support development of both language and social skills.
• Participate in IEP meetings and contribute as part of the student support team.
• Maintain confidentiality and document student progress as needed.
