Bring your expertise in American Sign Language to a rewarding contract position serving high school students who are Deaf or hard of hearing. In this role, you will provide comprehensive ASL interpretation and facilitation services, ensuring equal access to communication and curriculum. You'll collaborate with educational staff to support a student’s learning experience, working closely within mainstream and individualized settings.

Responsibilities include:

  • Delivering real-time ASL interpretation for classroom instruction, discussions, and activities
  • Facilitating communication between students, teachers, and peers
  • Assisting with access to all course material and assignments
  • Providing support during school assemblies, group projects, and extracurricular events as required
  • Maintaining confidentiality and adhering to professional ethical standards
  • Collaborating with educators and other support staff to meet students' individualized educational needs

Ideal candidates will demonstrate:

  • Registration under the SLI and Transliteration Registration Act (required)
  • Certification and licensure specific to Sign Language Interpreting
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language and a strong grasp of Deaf culture
  • Experience working with high school students, preferably in an educational or classroom setting
  • Understanding of the academic and social needs of students who are Deaf or hard of hearing
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and communicate clearly
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to fostering an inclusive environment
