A school district in Joliet, IL is seeking a motivated Speech-Language Pathologist Clinical Fellow (SLP-CF) for the upcoming school year. This is a great opportunity to complete your Clinical Fellowship in a structured, supportive school setting with strong mentorship and hands-on experience.

Position Overview

  • Full-time, Monday–Friday (35–40 hours/week)
  • Onsite role serving PreK–12 students (placement based on preference and district need)
  • Supervision provided by a licensed SLP to support CF completion
  • Full school year contract with potential for renewal

Caseload Details

  • Average caseload of 40–60 students (varies by school/site)
  • Students with mild to moderate needs across general and special education
  • Common areas of service include:
    • Articulation & phonological disorders
    • Receptive/expressive language delays
    • Social/pragmatic communication
    • Fluency and voice disorders
  • Opportunities to work with:
    • AAC devices and assistive technology
    • Autism spectrum disorders
    • Early childhood and transition-aged students
  • Key responsibilities:
    • Conduct evaluations and re-evaluations
    • Develop and implement IEP goals
    • Provide direct therapy (individual & small groups)
    • Collaborate with teachers, staff, and families
    • Maintain compliant documentation

Illinois State Requirements (SLP-CF)

To work as a Clinical Fellow in Illinois, candidates must:

  • Hold a Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program
  • Obtain a Temporary SLP License through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation prior to starting
  • Complete a supervised Clinical Fellowship (~9 months full-time or equivalent) under a licensed SLP
  • Pass the Praxis exam (or obtain ASHA certification) for full licensure
  • Work toward the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) through American Speech-Language-Hearing Association
  • For school settings: obtain or be eligible for a Professional Educator License (PEL) with SLP endorsement (requirements vary by candidate pathway)
  • Complete required background checks (fingerprinting, etc.)
