This contract speech-language pathology position focuses on supporting children and young adults ages 5–21 within a special private school environment. The school serves 78 students in 10 self-contained classrooms, each with an 8:1:3 staff-to-student ratio, fostering a highly supportive atmosphere. Most students are non-verbal, utilize alternative communication methods, and may have autism, severe cognitive disabilities, or behavioral challenges.

Schedules run Monday through Friday, 7:45 am to 3:15 pm, with immediate start through the end of the school year and the option to continue in a year-round school format. A dedicated therapy space is provided, ensuring you have the resources to focus on direct interventions.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

  • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology and current ASHA certification
  • Eligible for or holding New York state SLP licensure
  • Prior experience with K–12 students, especially those in special education and self-contained settings
  • Proficiency working with students who are non-verbal or use alternative/augmentative communication (AAC)
  • Comfort with managing challenging behaviors and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong documentation skills and a passion for helping students achieve communication milestones

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver evidence-based speech and language therapy to students across grades K–12 and transition-age youth
  • Develop and implement individualized plans, adapting therapy to various communication needs
  • Support students who require AAC devices and alternative communication strategies
  • Collaborate with teachers, aides, and families for optimal student progress
  • Maintain thorough records and participate in team meetings and IEP reviews
