This opportunity is ideal for a skilled Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) passionate about supporting students with significant communication needs in a specialized educational setting. Located in Queensbury, NY, approximately 45 minutes north of Albany, this position serves a K-12 population in a private school environment dedicated to students with level 3 autism, severe cognitive disabilities, and challenging behaviors.

Position Details:

  • Location: Queensbury, NY
  • Hours: 7:45 AM to 3:15 PM, Monday through Friday
  • Duration: ASAP through end of school year (EOSY)
  • Student Population: 78 students across 10 self-contained classrooms operating on an 8:1:3 student-to-staff ratio
  • Student Needs: Majority are non-verbal with alternative communication methods, requiring specialized and compassionate support

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct speech and language assessments tailored to students with complex communication and cognitive challenges
  • Develop and implement individualized therapy plans that incorporate alternative communication methods
  • Collaborate closely with teachers, therapists, and parents to support holistic student development
  • Document student progress and adjust therapy goals as needed based on ongoing evaluations
  • Provide direct interventions that enhance functional communication and social interaction skills

Qualifications:

  • Valid state licensure and certification as a Speech-Language Pathologist
  • Experience working with children demonstrating severe autism, cognitive disabilities, and non-verbal communication
  • Ability to work effectively within self-contained, multi-disciplinary school settings
  • Skill in designing and delivering evidence-based communication interventions for diverse learners
