Experience the unique rewards of making a meaningful difference every day as a Recreational Therapist or Social Worker supporting K-12 students in a dynamic school setting near Albuquerque, NM. This full-time onsite contract role is an itinerant position, providing the opportunity to travel between multiple schools within the district and build connections across a diverse student and staff community. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 3:30 pm, with the position starting ASAP and continuing through the end of the school year.
Key Qualifications:
- Current New Mexico Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) certification required (see: https://www.spo.state.nm.us/wp-content/uploads/Recreational-Therapy-Series.pdf)
- Background as a Recreational Therapist or Social Worker (school-based experience strongly preferred)
- Experience working with children and adolescents with special needs, particularly those with autism, ADHD, and developmental delays
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for itinerant travel
Primary Responsibilities:
- Facilitate group games to help students with autism enhance their social interactions and confidence
- Design and implement structured activities supporting students with ADHD in channeling their energy positively
- Adapt sports and recreational activities to promote gross motor skill development for students with developmental delays
- Encourage students with disabilities to utilize community resources and foster their integration into recreational opportunities outside the classroom
- Deliver support for students facing stress, anxiety, or depression, utilizing evidence-based relaxation techniques and coping strategies
