Make a meaningful impact in students’ lives through direct support and community engagement in a contract role as a Mental Health Specialist for the 2025/2026 school year. In this position, you will be working with general education students—individually and in groups—to foster social-emotional growth. You’ll also collaborate with schools to implement positive behavior initiatives, provide professional learning, and ensure proactive well-being strategies in both elementary and high school settings.

Three openings are available: two at the elementary level and one at the high school level. The role’s focus is on delivering mental health services, mobilizing resources, and collaborating with educators to help students succeed academically and emotionally.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree (required) with current LARA licensure (see Michigan LARA licensing for counseling professions)
  • Eligible credentials include:
    • Licensed Master’s-level Social Worker or School Social Worker
    • Licensed or Limited Licensed Master’s-level Psychologist (under appropriate supervision if limited)
    • MDE credentialed Master’s-level School Psychologist
    • Licensed Master’s-level Marriage and Family Therapist
    • Licensed or Limited Licensed Master’s-level Professional Counselor (with appropriate supervision if limited)
    • School Counselor License, Michigan Teaching Certificate with School Counselor endorsement, Preliminary or Temporary School Counselor credentials (with required steps toward LPC/LLPC licensure within 24 months)
  • Previous school-based or youth experience preferred
  • Commitment to supporting diverse learners and collaborating with educators

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct mental health interventions and social-emotional support to students
  • Lead and facilitate small group or individual sessions
  • Partner with classroom staff on positive behavior programs
  • Contribute to professional learning activities for educators
  • Respond to school community needs and support crisis intervention
