School Social Worker in Metairie, LA

Step into a rewarding opportunity supporting the academic and developmental growth of students as a contract school social worker in the New Orleans area. In this full-time position, you’ll engage directly in the Pupil Appraisal Department, collaborating with educational teams to evaluate and advocate for children’s access to specialized services. This role spans across 2–3 campuses, offering variety and daily impact as you help identify students who may benefit from Special Education programming.

Your expertise in eligibility determination will be invaluable, as you focus on evaluation, re-evaluation, testing, and active participation in SBLC/ABIT (Academic Behavior Intervention Team) meetings. The position also involves monitoring interventions and ensuring all evaluation procedures follow state guidelines, specifically Bulletin 1508. Coordinating efforts with a dedicated team—including school psychologists and educational diagnosticians—you’ll play a key part in a supportive, multi-disciplinary environment.

Desired qualifications:

• Active Louisiana DOE Certification and Professional License
• In-depth knowledge of Bulletin 1508 and Special Education eligibility processes
• Previous experience with pupil appraisal or school-based assessment services a plus
• Strong assessment, evaluation, and team-collaboration skills
• Ability to travel between multiple school locations as needed
• Must complete district background checks and drug screening in a timely manner

Primary responsibilities:

• Conduct comprehensive evaluations to determine students’ eligibility for Special Education services
• Administer assessments, interpret findings, and document results
• Participate in interdisciplinary meetings, delivering informed recommendations
• Monitor interventions and provide ongoing support throughout the appraisal process
