Job Description

A New Mexico school district is seeking a compassionate Virtual Social Worker | Remote School-Based Student Support Specialist to provide online counseling, student advocacy, and family support services for K–12 learners. This full-time remote opportunity is ideal for a school social worker who enjoys helping students overcome barriers to success while collaborating with educators, administrators, and community resources.

The selected candidate will provide virtual social-emotional support, assist with student needs assessments, and help connect families with resources that promote academic achievement and overall well-being. This position offers the flexibility of working remotely while remaining actively involved in a student-centered educational environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide virtual social work services and student support through secure online platforms.
  • Conduct student needs assessments and identify social, emotional, and environmental barriers impacting learning.
  • Provide individual and group counseling support when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, families, and school teams.
  • Assist with crisis response, intervention planning, and resource coordination.
  • Participate in virtual student support meetings and multidisciplinary team discussions.
  • Maintain accurate case notes and documentation according to district guidelines.

Qualifications

  • New Mexico Social Worker license or school social worker credential eligibility.

  • Understanding of confidentiality requirements and student privacy regulations.
  • Ability to provide effective remote services.

Experience

  • Previous school social work, counseling, or youth services experience preferred.
  • Experience supporting students with social-emotional needs, behavioral challenges, or academic barriers desired.
  • Virtual service delivery experience is a plus.

Education

  • Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related field may be considered depending on credential requirements.

Work Hours

8:00 AM – 3:30 PM Mountain Time
37.5 hours per week
