1. SPED Secondary Teacher (High School/Adult Program)
-
Work with older students, including pre-vocational and transition-age learners, potentially up to adult age
-
Focus on functional academics, life skills, vocational readiness, and independence
-
Collaborate with related service providers and support staff to implement individualized programming
2. SPED Intermediate Teacher (Middle School Program)
-
Support middle school students in a self-contained setting
-
Combination of academically focused instruction and some pre-vocational skill development
-
Modify curriculum and instruction to meet diverse learning and communication needs
Key Responsibilities
-
Deliver individualized, differentiated instruction in a self-contained classroom
-
Implement and adapt curriculum using alternative assessments as appropriate
-
Support students with significant behavioral, cognitive, and communication needs
-
Collaborate with paraprofessionals, therapists, and interdisciplinary teams
-
Maintain IEP compliance and documentation in alignment with NY State regulations
Requirements
-
NY State Certification in Special Education (Students with Disabilities) or actively working toward licensure
-
School is open to supporting recent graduates or candidates with out-of-state licenses in transfer process
-

Bachelor’s-level candidates considered; Master’s degree strongly preferred
-
Strongly preferred experience with one or more of the following:
-
Level 3 autism
-
Severe behaviors
-
Alternative/augmentative communication methods
-
Students with medical or intensive support needs
-

Ideal candidates will have experience with curriculum modification and non-traditional/alternative assessments
