Special Education Teacher Needed in Albany, NY

A specialized private school in New York is seeking two Special Education Teachers to join its team immediately. The school serves students with intensive support needs in a fully self-contained environment, providing highly individualized instruction and structured programming.

Available Openings

Secondary SPED Teacher (High School / Adult Program)

• Serve transition-age and older students, including those in pre-vocational programming

• Emphasis on functional academics, vocational readiness, daily living skills, and independence

• Support students as they prepare for post-school outcomes

Intermediate SPED Teacher (Middle School Program)

• Work with middle school students in a structured, self-contained classroom

• Blend academic instruction with emerging pre-vocational and functional skill development

• Adapt instruction to meet diverse learning, communication, and behavioral needs

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized instruction aligned to IEP goals

• Modify curriculum and instructional strategies for students with significant disabilities

• Utilize alternative assessments to monitor student progress

• Support students using AAC and other communication modalities

• Collaborate closely with paraprofessionals, clinicians, and school leadership

• Maintain compliance with NY State special education requirements

Qualifications

• New York State certification in Special Education (Students with Disabilities) or actively pursuing certification

  • Candidates with recent Master’s degrees or out-of-state licensure in the transfer process are encouraged to apply

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree strongly preferred

• Preferred experience working with:

  • Level 3 autism

  • Severe or complex behaviors

  • Non-verbal students and AAC systems

  • Students with medical or intensive support needs
