In this role, you’ll support either middle or high school students within self-contained classrooms (8:1:3 ratio). The school welcomes 78 students with level 3 autism, severe cognitive disabilities, or behavioral challenges—many of whom are non-verbal and rely on alternative communication methods. Your expertise will help foster a supportive, structured atmosphere that encourages each student to achieve their fullest potential.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid NY State Special Education certification (Students with Disabilities), or near completion. Recent master’s grads or those transferring out-of-state licensure are welcomed, as the school assists with transitions.
- Previous experience with level 3 autism, students with significant behavioral or cognitive challenges, or those requiring alternative/augmentative communication is highly preferred.
- Background modifying curriculum and conducting alternative assessments is advantageous.
- Demonstrates empathy, creativity, and team collaboration in working with students who have complex learning and communication needs.
Responsibilities:
- Design and implement individualized lesson plans and behavioral support strategies.
- Complete required paperwork, IEPs, and planning (additional compensated hours available for administrative work beyond the school day).
- Collaborate closely with support staff and therapy providers in a multidisciplinary team.
- Maintain a safe, nurturing, and structured environment while meeting students at their individual learning levels.
Enjoy a consistent Monday–Friday schedule (7:45am–3:15pm) and the opportunity for up to 40 compensated hours weekly. The hourly compensation ranges from $35 to $50, reflecting experience and credentials.
