Certified Grades K - 5 Special Education Teacher in Alexandria, VA

Make an immediate impact by supporting students with diverse needs in a self-contained classroom setting. This contract position focuses on teaching students ages 5 to 22 in specialized environments designed for those with severe and behavioral challenges. You'll work closely with a maximum of 9 students per class, making a meaningful difference every day.

Key qualifications and experience:

• Active Special Education Teaching Certification required
• Experience working with students with severe and behavioral disabilities preferred
• Comfortable teaching a variety of subjects across multiple grade levels (K-5, 6-8, 9-12)
• Ability to adapt lesson plans to individualized education plans (IEPs)
• Strong classroom management skills and commitment to positive behavior supports
• Excellent communication with students, staff, and families

Primary responsibilities:

• Provide instruction tailored to students’ individualized goals in solid alignment with IEPs
• Manage classrooms with a focus on safety, structure, and supportive relationships
• Develop and adapt materials to accommodate multiple academic levels and learning styles
• Maintain accurate records and documentation as required
• Collaborate with paraprofessionals, therapists, and other specialists
• Participate in team meetings and professional development
• Engage with parents and guardians to support student progress
• Work a consistent schedule, Monday through Friday from 7:30am – 3:30pm, totaling 40 hours per week
