Certified K-5 Special Education Teacher | Alexandria, Virginia

Make a direct impact as a Special Education Teacher serving students ages 5-22 in well-supported self-contained classrooms. This contract opportunity offers a rich teaching environment where each classroom has a maximum of nine students, allowing for meaningful interactions and personalized learning. Classes focus on severely impacted and behaviorally challenged students, offering the chance to be both creative and flexible in your teaching approach.

You’ll collaborate with knowledgeable support staff and work alongside other dedicated educators in an environment committed to student growth and well-being. The position operates on a consistent Monday through Friday schedule from 7:30am to 3:30pm, totaling 40 hours per week, giving you evenings and weekends free.

Qualifications

• Valid Special Education teaching certification
• Experience working with students in grades K-5, 6-8, and/or 9-12
• Comfort and proficiency teaching multiple core subjects
• Background in classroom management, preferably in settings with behavioral and severe needs
• Strong communication and organizational skills

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, adapt, and implement individualized education plans for students with severe and behavioral needs
• Foster a positive, structured, and safe learning environment within self-contained classrooms
