Job Type Contract

Step into a rewarding role supporting elementary-aged students in a self-contained special education classroom, just outside the Annapolis, MD area. This full-time, contract opportunity spans from mid-August 2026 through mid-June 2027, offering consistent hours at 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Daily start and end times will vary within a flexible 8 AM – 4 PM window, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch. You’ll begin with a small class—five students—growing to a manageable size of 9-10, and you’ll benefit from paraprofessional support in the classroom.

As the classroom’s lead special educator, you’ll implement the Program for Emotional & Academic Learning Support (PEALS). Your expertise in designing targeted curriculum, monitoring student growth, and managing IEPs will help shape a supportive and nurturing learning environment. Flexibility is key—IEP meetings are usually Tuesdays, but scheduling may adjust as needed.

You’ll provide instruction using proven interventions tailored to student needs, including Read 180, iSPIRE (for multisensory reading and dyslexia support), the Bridges Program for math development through play, and Orton-Gillingham methodologies. Your training in these—or your readiness to learn—will enhance your impact in the classroom.

  • Maryland Special Education Certification required
  • Experience working with elementary-aged students, preferably in self-contained settings
  • Familiarity with special education interventions (Read 180, iSPIRE, Bridges, Orton-Gillingham) a plus
  • Skilled in IEP development, curriculum planning, and progress monitoring
  • Collaborative, flexible, and passionate about student success
