Make a lasting impact by supporting 5th-grade students with diverse learning needs in a welcoming school community. This contract-based position focuses on delivering cross-categorical instructional programming that meets a wide range of academic, behavioral, communication, adaptive, and functional needs. You will provide targeted instruction aligned to grade-level standards while customizing approaches to address individualized IEP goals.

The classroom environment is structured to foster both achievement and personal growth. You’ll utilize a variety of strategies including structured teaching, visual supports, and behavioral and social-emotional interventions. Communication and sensory supports are emphasized, with robust collaboration among related service providers throughout each day. A program aide and additional 1:1 support staff are available, ensuring a team-centered approach that meets each student where they are.

Key Qualifications:

  • Special Education Teacher certification (Illinois or eligible for Illinois licensure)
  • Experience working with elementary-age students in special education settings
  • Proficiency developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Strong understanding of cross-categorical programming and evidence-based interventions
  • Ability to employ structured teaching, visual supports, and positive behavior supports
  • Collaborative spirit for working closely with aides, support staff, and related service providers

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Deliver differentiated instruction for 5th-grade students with varying needs
  • Align lessons to grade-level content and individualized IEP objectives
  • Integrate behavioral, social-emotional, and communication interventions into daily routines
  • Participate actively in IEP meetings and team collaborations
  • Foster an inclusive, supportive, and engaging classroom environment
