Apply NowStep into a meaningful contract opportunity supporting young learners as a Special Education Teacher in a vibrant elementary setting near Asheville, NC. This rewarding position focuses on delivering Adapted Curriculum and Intensive Intervention to a self-contained classroom of approximately 10 students in 2nd and 3rd grade. With the support of two dedicated teaching assistants, you’ll create an inclusive environment where each child's abilities are celebrated and supported.
What we’re seeking:
- Valid state teaching licensure with Special Education certification
- Experience teaching at the elementary level, particularly 2nd and/or 3rd grade
- Skills in Adapted Curriculum and Intensive Intervention strategies
- Strong classroom management and collaboration abilities
- Empathy, patience, and adaptability when responding to diverse learning needs
- Ability to work effectively with support staff and families
What you’ll do:
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized education plans for each student
- Provide direct instruction using adapted materials and specialized approaches
- Foster a positive, inclusive classroom atmosphere that promotes growth and self-confidence
- Lead and collaborate with two teaching assistants to maximize student support
- Regularly communicate student progress with families and school team
- Maintain accurate records, document progress, and participate in IEP meetings
- Utilize evidence-based practices and ongoing assessment to guide instruction
This is a full-time, contract role consisting of 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 3:30 pm. The position offers a stable schedule and the chance to make a lasting impact in a close-knit classroom setting.
