Special Education Teacher in Athens, GA

This opportunity is for a Special Education Teacher to support a self-contained autism class at an elementary school in Athens, GA. The class serves 1st and 2nd-grade students with behavior needs, focusing on the general education curriculum. This contract role offers a chance to make a meaningful difference in the academic and social development of students requiring specialized support.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver specialized instruction tailored to students in a self-contained autism support classroom.
• Implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) aligned with general curriculum standards.
• Manage classroom behaviors and provide a nurturing, structured learning environment.
• Collaborate with school staff, families, and support professionals to enhance student progress.
• Maintain accurate records and participate in ongoing assessments.

Qualifications:

• Valid Georgia certification in Adaptive Special Education or General Special Education.
• Certification covering all subject areas for grades P-5 (reading, writing, science, social science, math).
• Experience working with students with autism and behavior challenges preferred.
• Strong classroom management and communication skills.
• Ability to pass three reference checks, including one from a current or recent principal or assistant principal.
