A contract-to-hire opportunity is available for a Special Education Teacher eager to make a real impact in a dedicated resource room setting for the 2025-2026 academic year. Work closely with a small group of students (grades 1-6) who have moderate to severe needs—including Down syndrome and non-verbal autism—within an intensive resource room serving a supportive educational academy.

In this role, you will collaborate with skilled paraprofessionals and multidisciplinary service providers (OT, SLP, SSW) to create a nurturing, individualized classroom environment. Students utilize AAC devices and require thoughtful instruction, routines, and assistance throughout their school day. Your passion and expertise can be transformative for these students as you help them access learning and reach their fullest potential.

Qualifications & Desired Experience

  • Valid state teaching certification in Special Education (or eligibility to obtain)
  • Prior experience working with children with moderate to severe disabilities
  • Familiarity with AAC devices and non-verbal communication strategies preferred
  • Ability to adapt curriculum and instructional approaches to meet diverse needs
  • Strong collaboration skills for working with paraprofessionals and related service providers
  • Excellent organization, communication, and empathy

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging special education instruction tailored to IEP goals
  • Develop and implement individualized academic and behavioral intervention plans
  • Facilitate communication for students using AAC devices and alternative strategies
  • Collaborate with and supervise paraprofessionals in daily classroom routines and self-care
  • Partner with therapists and specialists for integrated support
  • Maintain accurate records and progress reports
