This contract opportunity seeks two Special Education professionals for Structured Learning Services classrooms, with assignments available at well-resourced elementary schools serving students facing very severe cognitive and behavioral disabilities.
Your role will center on delivering specialized instruction within a small classroom setting (7-15 students), supporting non-verbal students, and collaborating closely with related service providers. You’ll also play a key part in guiding paraprofessionals and fostering an engaging, station-based learning atmosphere, using research-based interventions especially tailored for students with autism.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Valid Colorado Department of Education license with Special Education Generalist (ages 5-21) endorsement
- Extensive experience with autism spectrum students, including those who are non-verbal (AAC competency highly valued)
- Familiarity with Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP)
- Proven ability in managing and supervising paraprofessional staff
- Experience working with aggressive or eloping behaviors (biting, hitting, running, etc.)
- Previous success with station-based classroom models or other researched-based autism interventions
Key Duties:
- Teach, guide, and support students with severe disabilities in a self-contained setting, promoting inclusion where appropriate
- Provide direct instruction and adapt curriculum to meet diverse needs
- Coordinate with speech, occupational, physical therapy, and psychological services in a push-in model
- Manage and mentor paraprofessional staff to ensure best practices are followed
- Implement and track individualized behavior and education plans
