Certified Grades 9 - 12 Special Education Teacher | Ballston Spa, New York

This contract opportunity engages you in a supportive, specialized private school setting serving secondary and intermediate students—most with alternative communication, severe cognitive disabilities, or autism. The school provides a self-contained, 8:1:3 classroom model and maintains a collaborative, mission-driven environment.

Your day will run from 7:45 AM to 3:15 PM, Monday through Friday. To support your success, approved hours may be extended to 40 per week so you have dedicated time for paperwork, IEPs, and planning outside the school day.

Key Qualifications:

• New York State certification in Special Education (Students with Disabilities) or pursuing this credential; those with a Master’s degree, recent graduates, or out-of-state licenses ready to transfer are encouraged to apply.
• Bachelor’s degree candidates will be considered, but a Master’s is strongly preferred.
• Prior experience with level 3 autism, students with severe behaviors, and those utilizing alternative communication/medical interventions is highly valued.
• Strength in alternative assessment methods, curriculum modifications, and working in highly individualized educational environments is ideal.

Role Responsibilities:

• Deliver thoughtful, adaptive instruction for grades 6–8 or 9–12, based on your skillset and interest.
• Foster a safe, structured environment where students thrive both academically and in pre-vocational skills.
• Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs).
• Collaborate closely with classroom support staff and clinical teams.
• Communicate effectively with non-verbal students using alternative or augmentative communication methods.
• Track student progress, contribute to data-driven decisions, and engage families and caregivers in the educational process.
