This fulfilling contract opportunity provides the chance to work in a unique private school community focusing on students with level 3 autism, severe cognitive disabilities, significant behavioral needs, and alternative communication requirements. The school features a close-knit setting of 78 students and 10 self-contained classrooms, each thoughtfully structured with an 8:1:3 ratio to support individualized learning.
Enjoy a consistent Monday through Friday schedule from 7:45 am to 3:15 pm, with up to 40 hours per week approved for those who wish to come in early or stay late to handle critical planning and paperwork. There are two openings available: one for an instructor focusing on high school/pre-vocational and adult learners, and the other for a middle school role that leans more toward academics with some pre-vocational elements. The position begins as soon as possible and extends through the end of the school year.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Holds or is working toward a New York State Special Education (Students with Disabilities) certification; recent graduates or out-of-state teachers seeking credential transfer will be considered.
- Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree strongly preferred.
- Experience with level 3 autism, severe behavioral needs, alternative communication strategies, or significant medical needs is highly valued.
- Proficiency in alternative assessments, curriculum modification, and adaptation for diverse learners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver individualized instruction in self-contained classrooms.
- Develop and implement IEPs, adapting content and assessments to meet student needs.
- Foster positive, supportive relationships with students, families, and a dedicated multidisciplinary team.
