Special Education Teacher in Bay City, MI

A contract opportunity is available for a dedicated Special Education Teacher to support students with cognitive impairments in a K-2 setting. Based near Bay City, MI, this position is suited for a compassionate professional eager to make a meaningful difference for young learners. The role is scheduled for the upcoming academic year, with a tentative start date of August 11, 2026, and an end date of June 4, 2027. You’ll be working 37.5 hours per week with a manageable caseload of 17 students.

Desired Qualifications & Experience:

• Valid Special Education teaching certification
• Experience or strong interest in serving students identified with cognitive impairments (CI)
• Previous work in a school setting, preferably in an early elementary environment
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to document progress effectively
• Positive attitude, flexibility, and readiness to collaborate with other educators and support staff
• Strong communication skills to interact with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams

• Develop and deliver individualized instruction tailored to each student’s needs and learning goals
• Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment
• Implement and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
• Collaborate with general education teachers, school therapists, and staff to adapt curriculum and instruction
• Communicate regularly with families to ensure student progress and to encourage ongoing cooperation
• Maintain thorough records on student progress and ensure compliance with educational guidelines
