A contract-to-hire opportunity is available for a dedicated Special Education Teacher to lead an Intensive Resource Room serving students in grades 1–6 for the 2025-2026 school year. In this role, you will work with a small class of six students whose exceptionalities include Down syndrome and non-verbal autism, creating a nurturing, individualized environment that focuses on student growth and independence.
What we’re seeking:
- Current certification in Special Education (or ability to obtain)
- Experience teaching students with significant disabilities, including familiarity with AAC devices and alternative communication
- Ability to collaborate with paraprofessionals, therapists, and service providers
- Compassion, patience, and adaptability to meet diverse learning and self-care needs
- Strong IEP development and data collection skills
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive classroom atmosphere
Your responsibilities will include:
- Designing and implementing individualized instructional and behavioral plans
- Coordinating with paraprofessionals to support daily routines and self-care
- Integrating therapies and accommodations recommended by occupational, speech, and social work providers
- Facilitating communication and skill-building with the help of AAC devices and other assistive technology
- Monitoring student progress and adjusting strategies to maximize academic and functional growth
- Maintaining open communication with families and related service staff
